Carols in the wind

Thank you so much to everyone who braved the tail-end of Storm Darragh on Saturday 7th December, 2024 to come along to Forest Hill Station to sing carols and hear the mural story.

Despite the severe weather, that had earlier threatened to knock down our Christmas tree, a large group of local residents and travellers gathered in what is now increasingly becoming Forest Hill's "town square", the exit side of the station car park.

Once again, the Forest Hill Society is extremely grateful to Churches Together who organised the carol singing and led us masterfully in many popular carols, even supplying the lyrics for those of us who can never remember anything other than the chorus! The santa hats and the sweets on offer from the youngest members were a lovely feature of the gathering.

Of course, we are also, much indebted to Lee Jackson who took on the challenge to decorate the tree and managed to get almost all the way to the top of the tallest Christmas tree we've ever seen in this space, even without a lift. Thank you so much again for the amazing decorations and the sense of style you've brought to this space. Do enjoy the tree and lights, generously provided by Lewisham Council, for the next few weeks as it shines for all those who pass by.

The other main event on the night was the unveiling of the plaque for the mural. The Forest Hill Society was hugely grateful that our local MP, Ellie Reeves, was able to join us to unveil the plaque that explains a little of the story behind the design.

We hope this was as pleasant and heart-warming a start to the Christmas celebrations for you and your families as it was for the members of the committee. We wish you all a very Merry Christmas, happy Hanukkah and warm wishes for the Winter Solstice, and whatever you celebrate at this time of year, and we look forward to seeing you all again in 2025.
